not until the wheels are in the air
From the time Daniel and Thomas were born, until about age 15, Roberta and Dennis would fly to Prince Edward Island with the boys for a couple of months. It was never Summer at our house until the boys were home. After Summer was over, knowing that it was a long flight back to Calgary for the two young boys, I would make them up a surprise bag filled with snacks, books, puzzles, etc. but they weren't able to open them until the airplane wheels were in the air.
This past November, 2019, I was in Calgary visiting with Dan and family. It was my birthday, so my son Trevor had the Hickey's and Carmichael's over for supper. As we were saying goodbye, (which I felt may be our last goodbye) Kaelah noticed a gift bag sitting on the table. Dan said it was for me. Kaelah suggested that I open it before Dan left. Dan said, "No! Auntie Joyce knows the rules. She can't open it 'till the wheels are in the air". Only Dan would have the thoughtfulness to remember the surprises, but also would want to show me how much they meant to him. What was in the bag - kleenex (as he knew I would be crying), treats, a candle, a calendar, crossword puzzles, etc.
Daniel, we miss and love you. May the Wheels to Heaven be filled with Love. xoxo
