the captain

What a guy.

We all have those special people in our lives that we know, without them, we would be worse off. I have been very fortunate in my life to have met some truly wonderful, amazing people whether through school, work or sports. When I think of meeting Dan, I can't help but think of how lucky I was to have a chance to hang out with such a good guy.

I have read so many awesome stories on the site about Dan and reading them brings me back to the good ol' days at "X" and when we played hockey together, which feels like yesterday after reading some of these. I'm here to second the notion that gets brought up time and time again - nobody had the ability to make you feel so comfortable in any situation as Dan did. When I joined the Pirates hockey club, I was lucky to have met Dan prior through our mutual friends, Luke and John. We had such an awesome group of guys on those teams through the years. The funny part is, almost all of us were from the same area. We roughly had some sort of connection to most of the guys on those teams over years prior to playing together in Port Hawkesbury. Not Dan - he spent his years playing on that team and during that time, he was easily the most popular guy in the room and on the bus. He was the true "Captain" of the pirate ship.

Thinking about Dan also just brings back great memories with so many other different people. Whether it was the parties at Greening, study sessions at the lib, HALO at New Rez (shotguns and rocket launchers only) or the road trips on the ship, we had an awesome time. I am glad to have called him my friend.

With love,

-Cleo
